Intelsat, Ltd. has signed new agreements with three companies—Strong Technologies, RRSAT Global and Rádio e Televisão de Portugal… here are the details.
Intelsat, Ltd. has signed a new multi-year, multi transponder contract with Strong Technologies LLC of Dubai. Under this contract, Strong Technologies will use additional capacity on the Intelsat 10 satellite, located at 68.5°E, as My TV increases its channel line-up for its DTH (Direct-To-Home) service operating in sub-Saharan Africa.
My TV distributes programming across sub-Saharan Africa. The company will use the Intelsat 10 satellite’s Ku-band payload to expand its programming, which currently includes MGM Channel, BBC World, Setanta Sports, Fox Sports, National Geographic Adventure, Trace TV, MCM Top, Baby TV, TéléTOON, Fashion TV and Africa Independent Television (AIT).
The company has also announced that RRSat Global Communications Network Ltd. [NASDAQ: RRST] will use the Intelsat global network to expand RRSat’s programming transmissions services seamlessly across three continents. RRSat contracted for capacity on Intelsat’s Galaxy 23 and Intelsat 10 satellites for content broadcasting throughout Africa, Asia and North America. The Intelsat 10 satellite, located at 68.5° E offers communications services to customers wanting access to the emerging markets of the Indian subcontinent as well as Central and Western Asia.
RRSat will use its Intelsat 10 capacity to distribute television programming from Europe and the United States into Asia and Africa. The Galaxy 23 satellite, located at 121° W within Intelsat’s valuable Galaxy neighborhood, offers programmers distribution to the U.S. cable community, reaching millions of homes. RRSat will use Galaxy 23 capacity to distribute television programming from Europe and Asia into the U.S. cable market.
And there’s more… the company is also going to be distributing Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) programming throughout the Americas, Europe and Africa. The Portuguese public service broadcaster signed a multi-year, multi-transponder deal with Intelsat for standard definition transmission services of its programming via three Intelsat satellites. RTP will use the Intelsat 907 satellite located at 332.5ºE for Africa distribution of both RTP Africa and RTP Internacional programming, the Intelsat 805 satellite located at 304.5ºE for its RTP Internacional programming distribution in North, Central and South America and the Galaxy 28 satellite located at 89ºW for DTH distribution in Brazil of its RTP Internacional programming—Pembroke, Bermuda
