SAN DIEGO — Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTOS) concluded the first Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for its EPOCH Command and Control (C2) software integrated with the Airbus OneSat software-defined satellite platform on December 30, 2025.
The milestone was confirmed in a company statement released Tuesday from San Diego. The testing process involved engineers from both organizations validating that EPOCH hardware and software could communicate with a simulated OneSat vehicle while meeting safety and redundancy requirements.
Ground Infrastructure for Software-Defined Payloads
The integration addresses technical requirements specific to software-defined satellites (SDS). Unlike traditional architectures with fixed coverage, the Airbus OneSat platform is designed to reshape beams, adjust capacity, and reconfigure missions while in orbit. This flexibility requires a ground segment capable of managing frequent state changes and higher levels of onboard autonomy.
Kratos updated its EPOCH C2 suite to synchronize with OneSat’s dynamic configuration protocols. This validation follows a series of strategic developments for Kratos in the virtualized ground segment market. In November 2024, the company was awarded a prime contract from the Space Development Agency (SDA) to build the Advanced Fire Control Ground Infrastructure (AFCGI). Earlier that year, Kratos’ OpenSpace platform supported a BlueHalo demonstration for the U.S. Space Force Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource (SCAR) program.
Technical Validation and Telemetry Processing
During the acceptance testing, the joint engineering team demonstrated the ability of EPOCH to manage fluid operations on the OneSat platform. The system executed mission scenarios confirming it can process the high-volume telemetry and command traffic required by digital payloads.
“This successful milestone reflects the close collaboration we’ve established with Airbus in developing software-defined space capabilities,” said Maurizio Scotta, the president of Kratos Communications. “The flexibility of our EPOCH command and control system design allows us to work with Airbus to unlock the full potential of the OneSat Platform”.
Operational Integration and Deployment
The OneSat program has been selected by multiple major operators, including commercial telecommunications providers and customers in the Middle East. With the ground segment validation complete, the system is cleared for integration into customer operational centers.
