Newtec—Technology Showcase @ NAB 2014 (Event—SatBroadcasting™)

April 3, 2014

[SatNews] Next week at NAB 2014, Newtec invites all to come and discover Newtec Dialog®, a new SATCOM platform—visit the company at booth #SU3421 and see how Newtec Dialog® can optimize your business.

The Newtec Dialog® Satcom Platform's key features:

  • Supports multiple satellites, multiple frequency bands, regular and spot beam satellites
  • Scalable from 5 to +100.000s of terminals
  • Highly efficient DVB-S2 ACM and Clean Channel Technology in the forward link
  • Choice between SCPC, MF-TDMA and patented Newtec Mx-DMA™ as return link technology
  • Hierarchical QoS management with 7 classes
  • Advanced Network Management System capabilities, both GUI and API, including VNO support
  • Satlink Manager for satellite resource allocation, reservation and automated link setup or teardown

The Newtec Dialog® platform is a scalable and flexible multiservice satellite communications platform that allows satellite service providers to build and adapt their network easily as their business grows. Additional information is available this direct link.

Advantages:

  • Supporting wide range of applications and services on a single platform
  • 15 percent efficiency improvement with Newtec’s Clean Channel technology
  • 50 percent bandwidth saving with Newtec Mx-DMA return link technology
  • OSS/BSS integration using extensive open API
  • Easy to use and fast network roll-out
  • Modem portfolio, supporting different return links
  • Pay-as-you-grow modularity
  • Maximum availability and link robustness
  • Future proof

Newtec's MDM6100 & M6100stay ahead in reliable broadcasting with our new broadcast modem and modulator. The MDM6100 and M6100 are software upgradable with the new DVB-S2X standard. The key features include…

  • Baud rate range: 1 – 72 Mbaud
  • Data rates up to 380 Mbit/s (dependent on configuration)
  • IF (70/140) and L-Band (950-2150) high power outputs
  • Redundant optional ASI or GbE interfaces in single stream mode
  • Built-in TS Analyser with PCR jitter measurements
  • Accurate link margin monitoring through the use of NODE™ Noise& Distortion Estimator tool
  • RFI reduction using optional DVB RF Carrier ID (DVB-CID) and NIT table CID (default)
  • Automatic TS rate adaptation
  • L-band monitoring output
  • DVB-S2X, DVB-S2 and DVB-S compliant
  • S2 Extensions and MODCODs

The MDM6100 Broadcast Satellite Modem is a future-proof building block that lets any satellite network evolve to the next level of capabilities. A scalable, pay-as-you-grow, licensing and software upgrade mechanism facilitates the launch of new services, or last minute network design changes, without rebuilding the entire network infrastructure. Migration from ASI to GbE and IF to L-band is facilitated by simple in-field installation of license keys. Migration of standard distribution links towards S2 Extensions and DVB-S2X can be as simple as inserting an MDM6100 modem in the head-ends while keeping the installed base of IRDs. The brand new DVB-CID carrier identifier is already available as a software option on the MDM6100. Further details are available this direct link.

The new DVB-S2X—With the full implementation of the new standard DVB-S2X, staggering efficiency gains up to 51 percent can be achieved for professional applications over satellite.

On February 27th, 2014, the DVB steering committee has approved the specifications for the new standard, called DVB-S2X. Newtec, after many years of research and development, took the lead to put the topic of an enhanced satellite transmission standard on the DVB agenda, teaming up with other DVB Members in order to define and develop an update to the DVB-S2 standard. When comparing the current DVB-S2 standard against the full implementation of DVB-S2X, staggering efficiency gains up to 51 percent can be achieved for professional applications over satellite. When combined with Wideband, an extra 20 percent can be added to the equation. For DTH networks, up to 20 percent efficiency increase can be obtained. These gains already exceed the results by proprietary systems in the market today. Improvements include:

  • Smaller Roll-Offs
  • Advanced Filtering
  • Supporting Different Network Configurations
  • Increased Granularity in MODCODs
  • Higher Modulation Schemes up to 64/128/256APSK
  • Very Low SNR MODCODs
  • Linear and non-linear MODCODs
  • Bonding of TV streams
  • Additional standard scrambling sequences
  • Wideband Support

Additional information regarding DVB-S2X is available at this direct link.
