Comtech EF Data... LPOD Block Up Converter Product Line Expands = Two New Models

[Satnews] Comtech EF Data Corp. announces the expansion of its LPOD Block Up Converter product family with the introduction of two new models, the 300 Watt LPOD and the 16 Watt LPOD-R. With the introduction of the higher power 300 Watt C-Band model, the LPOD is now available in a wider range of power levels and bands, including 20-125 Watt Ku-Band, 25-250 Watt X-Band and 25-300 Watt C-Band.

The new 16 Watt P1dB / 20W Psat Ku-Band LPOD-R is a small and smart 16 Watt unit that requires only 110 Watts of power capability from a 24/48VDC BUC power supply contained within the modem. This greatly expands the range of throughput available from existing TDMA or SCPC modems.

The LPOD product family expansion provides additional options for flexible, reliable and field-proven RF signal transmission and reception. The LPOD is designed to eliminate the traditional requirement for the satellite modem to supply a DC power source and a 10 MHz reference to the BUCs and LNBs. The LPOD’s optional internal reference and LNB bias T greatly simplify multi-carrier operation and provide cost-effective redundant solutions. The LPOD-R Block Up Converters are more compact in size than the LPOD, providing a high-performance option for installations with limited available mounting space and where the full support of internal 10 MHz reference and redundancy are not required.

Both the LPOD and the LPOD-R offer unique and powerful features, such as built-in data logging and Advanced FSK. The built-in data logging functionality is a true differentiator, greatly enhancing system maintainability and providing the insight required to maximize network uptime. By recording critical operational parameters including temperature, output power and mute status, users can quickly gather intelligence about the unit and its operational environments, taking the appropriate corrective actions when necessary.

There are a variety of methods for monitoring and controlling the LPOD and LPOD-R Block Up Converters to maximize uptime—through Advanced FSK, via its on-board Ethernet port, through a hand-held device or via Comtech EF Data’s NetVue Integrated Management System.

The NetVue Integrated Management System provides real-time analytics for issue resolution and avoidance. NetVue provides a single intuitive graphical user interface that acts as a user-friendly front-end to monitor and control network equipment. It features a robust, comprehensive network management and analytics engine that allows users to intelligently maximize resources, ensure network uptime and provide the elevated levels of service that are required to support fixed and remote sites in the field.

When teamed with Comtech EF Data modems, the LPOD and LPOD-R provide enhanced functionality utilizing an extended industry-standard FSK communications channel, offering full control of single thread and redundant systems from the modem front panel without additional cabling or cost. The units can also be accessed via the Ethernet M&C port of the modem and controlled via Embedded Distant-end Monitor and Control (EDMAC).

“The new offerings demonstrate our commitment to providing RF solutions that increase data uplink capabilities, address power consumption considerations, and deliver the real-time performance analytics that are required to ensure optimal network operation,” commented Steve Good, Vice President of Marketing for Comtech EF.
