Spacecom's AMOS-5 Delivers ACTV To Nigeria + ACTV Delivers Multi-Year, Multi-Million Dollar Contract To Spacecom

[SatNews] Spacecom (Tel Aviv Stock Exchange: SCC), the operator of the AMOS satellite fleet, today announced that the AMOS-5 satellite has won a multi-year contract to transmit Nigeria's newest Pay TV platform from ACTV (African Cable TV). Launched in 2011 from its 17 degrees E prime orbital position, the satellite will send ACTV's signals to viewers throughout Nigeria over its Ku-1 beam, the AMOS-5 satellite positions Spacecom at the forefront of Africa’s emerging satellite services market.

ACTV is a new digital Pay TV platform offering over 60 channels to Nigerian viewers. Alongside premium channels  including SKY News, Nickelodeon, Fox News, Nat Geo Gold (National Geographic Gold), Fox Entertainment, Fox Movies, Fox Sports, MU TV (Manchester United TV), International World Drama and more, the new platform also offers an array of its own local productions, music, children and youth, news, sports, lifestyle, religious, movie and entertainment channels.

According to Godfrey Okreh, CEO of ACTV, "Creating the ACTV platform is an exciting project and with the support of AMOS-5 at 17 degrees East we look forward to an exciting future. Our viewers in Nigeria deserve choice, and we at ACTV are giving them new and stimulating offerings for their pleasure. Our broadcast platform is bringing information and knowledge to our viewers enabling them to enjoy life to its fullest. As a cost-effective platform backed by an organization based on delivering the highest quality service, ACTV is going to change Nigeria for the better."

"ACTV is primed to become a force of change in Nigeria's communications sector and Spacecom is pleased to be their choice for satellite services. AMOS-5 at 17 degrees East reaches all of Nigeria with its strong signal. Our team business approach enables our ACTV partners to focus on their competitive advantages in the market," commented Eitan Mesika, Spacecom's VP Sales West Africa. "Since the satellite's launch in 2011, we have enjoyed working with Nigerian clients and having ACTV as an example of how we are stepping up our strategy and moving forward in this fast moving market."

ACTV significantly strengthens the 16-17 degrees East position, already the leading DTH and free-to-air video neighbourhood in West Africa. This will improve the quality and effectiveness of broadcasting services to the region and deliver viewers a larger channel line-up from one virtual orbital position. AMOS-5 represents a total solution for broadcast and data clients in Africa with excellent coverage, a strong footprint, and reliable and powerful signals throughout the continent. AMOS-5's three Ku-band beams and pan-African C-band beam add value to broadcasters, data, telecommunication and Internet providers as well as governments and multi-national corporations.

The AMOS-5 satellite features a fixed pan-African C-band beam and three steerable Ku-band beams—all covering Africa with connectivity to Europe and the Middle East and supporting multiple transponders in both C-band and Ku-band.

The AMOS-5 satellite offers Spacecom customers a wide range of satellite services, including:

  • Direct-to-home (DTH) broadcasting
  • VSAT communications and broadband Internet
  • Telephony services
  • Data trunking
  • Cellular backhaul
  • Video distribution

Together with the AMOS-2 and the AMOS-3 satellites co-located at Spacecom’s 4 degrees West orbital “hot spot,” the AMOS-5 satellite gives customers coverage over many of the world’s fastest growing and highest-demand satellite markets in the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa.
