Targeting the gap between emergency satellite messaging and true mobile ubiquity, Samsung Electronics has officially listed the Exynos Modem 5410 on its semiconductor product portal. The listing confirms the component has entered mass production and is the industry’s first to integrate three distinct non-terrestrial network (NTN) communication standards onto a single chip.
The Exynos 5410 is manufactured on a 4-nanometer (nm) FinFET process and integrates LTE Direct-to-Cell (DTC), NB-IoT NTN, and NR-NTN functionalities. This architecture enables a tiered connectivity strategy: NB-IoT for low-bandwidth text and location tracking, LTE DTC for satellite-based voice calls, and NR-NTN for high-bandwidth applications such as video streaming.
Technical Architecture and Quantum Security
Adhering to 3GPP Release 17 standards, the modem supports both sub-6 GHz (FR1) and millimeter-wave (mmWave/FR2) spectrums. Samsung reports peak download speeds of 14.79 Gbps when utilizing 5G New Radio (NR) dual connectivity.
A key security upgrade includes Root of Trust (RoT)-based Hybrid Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). This hardware-level feature is designed to encrypt sensitive identifiers, such as the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), protecting against future decryption threats posed by quantum computing.
Strategic Decoupling and Industry Partnerships
The release follows a multi-year development track that began with Samsung’s 5G NTN simulations on the Exynos 5300 platform in February 2023. The current Exynos 5410 product page notes specific certification by Skylo Technologies, following a 2023 strategic partnership to validate NTN support on Samsung’s cellular chipsets.
Strategically, the Exynos 5410 marks a shift to an external modem architecture. Reports indicate the upcoming Exynos 2600 processor—the world’s first 2nm smartphone chip—will decouple the cellular radio to maximize die space for AI logic and graphics processing. While standalone modems traditionally face efficiency challenges, Samsung claims the 5410 offers reduced standby power consumption compared to the previous Exynos 5400.
Executive Insight on Ecosystem Readiness
Park Yong-in, the president and head of Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business, previously emphasized the importance of this integrated approach to global connectivity.
“Samsung aims to take the lead in advancing hybrid terrestrial-NTN communications ecosystems around the world in preparation for the arrival of 6G,” said Park. “Standardizing NB-IoT NTN technology within our modem platforms eliminates the need for separate high-power wireless antenna chips, providing greater design flexibility for mobile device makers“.
Implementation Outlook
The Exynos Modem 5410 is expected to debut commercially in the Galaxy S26 smartphone series, scheduled for release in early 2026. Its “mass production” status indicates that validation with major global carrier partners is currently underway.
