The Space Coast of Florida continues to be a hub of new space-related business… this time around, the company is Lockheed Martin, the area is Titusville and the cause celeb is the firm's expansion of their Astrotech Space Operations.
The announcement was made by the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast. Lockheed Martin will enhance their spacecraft manufacturing and testing facilities and will add as many as 300 jobs to the payroll. The advancement was aided by incentive support from the North Brevard Economic Development Zone as well as Florida, with the state's Governor Rick Scott stating that all that can be done to make it easier for businesses such as Lockheed Martin, to grow within his state will be done.
The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) is pleased to announce that Lockheed Martin has selected Titusville as the site to create new capabilities, advancing Lockheed Martin’s role in spacecraft manufacturing and test. The company has chosen to leverage the Astrotech Space Operations site adding up to 300 jobs. Incentive support provided by the North Brevard Economic Development Zone (NBEDZ) and the state of Florida provided the best business case for Lockheed Martin to expand its operations on the Space Coast.
Governor Rick Scott said, “Florida is home to one of the largest aerospace and aviation industries in the nation and we continue to grow. It’s exciting that Lockheed Martin continues to expand in Florida, adding hundreds of jobs for our families.We will do all we can to make it easier for businesses like Lockheed Martin to succeed in Florida."
According to Lynda Weatherman, president and CEO of the EDC of Florida’s Space Coast, her agency worked closely with Enterprise Florida and NBEDZ as well as the city of Titusville to ensure a strategic business approach that would be successful, with Titusville adding to the recognition being gained by the city for the nexgen of space technology development.
