[SatNews] Expect to see webTV, OTT (Over-The-Top), and IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) delivery technologies showcased at IB2014 by Thomson Video Networks—as consumer demand grows for OTT content on an ever-growing range of devices, broadcasters must adapt to stay competitive.
The spotlight will be on Thomson's MediaFlex v3.0 video operating system, the ViBE™ VS7000 video system. This is an "anything in, anything out" platform that provides live broadcast-quality encoding, innovative video pre-processing, and faster-than-real-time file transcoding in an all-IP environment. The ViBE VS7000—offered on highly-resilient platforms—offers an integrated operation through a unified graphical user interface that enables custom workflows creation, automatic load-balancing and fail-over features. Also featured at IBC2014 will be a demo of improved HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) video quality in live operation via MPEG-Dash (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) and HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV).
Thomson is also working on "future proofing" their services and products, such as their VS7000 multi-screen video encoding/transcoding platform, whose processing power is now scalable. New features have been added, such as TV channel branding, mosaic generation, multi-view broadcasting, new codecs and support for various streaming formats becomes a simple operation of seamlessly and automatically rebalancing jobs across the ViBE VS7000 processing cloud.

ViBE™ CP6000—This contribution platform now offers advanced capabilities for broadcast-quality video transmission over unmanaged networks, including the open Internet. By enabling cloud-friendly deployments for contribution and primary distribution, the 1RU ViBE CP6000 provides an all-encompassing media infrastructure that supports multiple codecs, networks and devices for ground-to-cloud, as well as ground-to-ground, video delivery. The ViBE CP6100 also provides identical functionality in a compact, half-rack version, which is perfect for space-constrained applications such as live event coverage with OB vans, DSNG vehicles, or flyaways.
Ultra-High Definition Playout System—This HEVC compression-driven solution is powered by the ViBE™ VS7000 HEVC encoder and the Sapphire MPEG stream server. This system has already been successfully deployed by major global satellite operators to provide UHDTV presentation at up to 60 frames per second (fps) and in 10-bit color. Thomson will also display premium HEVC UHD content protection using watermarking technology as mandated by the MovieLabs consortium.
A Unified Solution for Premium, High-Density, and Cloud-Based Infrastructures—Thomson's new strategy for an all-encompassing video delivery infrastructure mixes on-premise and cloud-based resources in support of traditional live broadcasts over DTH (Direct-To-Home), DTTV (Digital Terrestrial Television) as well as IPTV and OTT on multiple devices. Designed for traditional as well as new-media broadcasters and payTV operators, this new approach leverages Thomson Video Networks compression solutions to provide encoding of high-value content as well as high-density compression of long-tail content.
