The National Space Foundations’ 28th National Space Symposium held from April 16-19 at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 28th National Space Symposium brings together all sectors of space to highlight accomplishments and address opportunities and issues facing the global space community today. The Symposium offers presentations and panels covering all aspects of space, plus special events and presentation of several prestigious space-related awards.

SatNews has information regarding two prominent figures who will be featured speakers:

Letitia A. Long, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, has joined the growing roster of high-level industry, military, civil space and academic speakers at the premier gathering of space professionals. Long will be a featured speaker on Tuesday, April 17, the first full day of the program.

The Symposium is offered in conjunction with a separate Space Foundation event, Cyber 1.2, which will be held on April 16 at The Broadmoor Hotel, immediately preceding the opening ceremony of the 28th National Space Symposium.

Long was appointed director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in 2010. Previously, she was deputy director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA); deputy under secretary of defense for intelligence (Policy, Requirements and Resources); deputy director of naval intelligence; and was the Central Intelligence Agency’s executive director for intelligence community affairs. Also slated to address Challenges and Opportunities is National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Director Bruce A. Carlson.

Carlson is the 17th director of the NRO, Carlson directs the agency responsible for space reconnaissance systems, intelligence-related U.S. national security activities and collection from space. 

Carlson’s career includes a broad range of military, space and intelligence assignments. He was commissioned as an Air Force officer after graduating with distinction from the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. A command pilot with more than 3,700 flying hours in ten different aircraft, his flying assignments included commanding the Air Force’s first stealth fighter wing, the 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman AFB, N.M. His staff assignments included positions at Tactical Air Command, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, and the offices of the Secretary of the Air Force and Secretary of Defense.
