According to press reports, the space unit of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, Ltd., which is to be sold to ATK, has now had the final approval decision by the Canadian government for the turnover extended for 30 days. This review extension was applied by Jim Prentice, the Industry Canada Minister. The sale price of 1.3B/USD was agreed to between MDA and ATK last January and all had been approved by each firm’s board of directors and shareholders. Some groups, such as Sack Goldblatt Mitchell LLP, are unhappy with the transaction and feel the sale would run contrary to Canada’s interests, especially in regards to the arrangement running afoul of the nation’s Investment Canada Act as well as the Remote Sensing Space Systems Act.
