Mainstream Data has entered into an agreement with Portugal Telecom (PT) and Lusa (Portugal’s national press agency) to distribute news stories and photographs to Lusa’s newspaper and media customers in Europe and Africa via Mainstream’s satellite and MediasNet (Internet) networks. PT currently provides LUSA a wide range of services such as network operations, telecommunication services, help desk support, and customer service. Teaming with PT, Mainstream was selected by LUSA to replace its existing satellite distribution system with Mainstream’s state-of-the-art news distribution platform.
Under the terms of the agreement, Mainstream uses a combination of its satellite and Internet delivery technologies, along with its Medias Server™ product to serve Lusa’s diverse customer base. Medias Server is Mainstream’s proprietary application server created specifically to integrate multimedia content delivered over satellite and the Internet. Medias Server employs automatic failover functionality to switch between satellite and Internet feeds and to guarantee data delivery to end-user sites.
Additionally, Mainstream provides Lusa with a new text processing technology allows much greater flexibility for Lusa and its end-users. Through a simple process, XML files are easily converted to HTML, NewsML, plain text, and any number of customized XML formats. This high level of flexibility enables Lusa to deliver targeted content in customized formats to each end-user—Salt Lake City, Utah
