Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc) has signed a long-term satellite distribution agreement with UPC Direct, one of the largest Direct-to-Home (DTH) providers in Central and Eastern Europe.
The agreement will provide UPC Direct with an initial 7 transponders to re-locate its current broadcast traffic to the THOR 5 and THOR 6 satellites. THOR 5 was launched in February 2008 and is currently in commercial operation, while THOR 6 is set to launch in Q4 2009. TSBc’s satellite fleet resides at the prime orbital location, 1 degree West, which currently serves more than two million DTH households in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Moldova. With an extensive choice of digital television and radio broadcasts in the UPC Direct bouquet, the move will further strengthen 1 degree West as the fastest growing orbital location in Central and Eastern Europe.
