Jordan-based Ultra Business for IT and Communications (UBITC) is expanding their IP streaming and digital television services to clients in the Middle East with support from Adtec Digital. UBITC has installed Adtec Digital encoders and decoders with clients Nourmina TV, Comedy TV, Petra TV, Saudi TV, Comedy TV, JOSAT TV, Orient TV, WTV, the General Security Decorate and Jordanian Germany University in Amman. Streaming is only part of what UBITC is doing with Adtec products. They are also installing a store-forward network of video players. UBITC is a system integrator and distributor of digital video compression, distribution, and playout applications for broadcast.

Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTR) is joining forces with the Intel Digital Home Group at the CableLabs® Summer Conference 2009 in Keystone, Colorado, to showcase the world’s first demo of the newly ratified Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Quality of Service (QoS) 3.0 specification over MoCA® on a set-top box (STB) platform. The demo uses Entropic’s EN2510 single-chip, coaxial network controller and RF transceiver, which is based on the MoCA 1.1 standard and the Intel Media Processor CE 3100 system-on-a-chip (SoC) based on the company’s popular Intel® architecture. UPnP is an international standard for device interoperability on IP networks. UPnP QoS 3.0 is a new specification that defines a framework for policy-based parameterized Quality of Service (QoS), essentially bridging the gap between service provider and broadband network solutions to provide end-to-end management of user devices within the home.

The leading candidate to become the chief executive officer for Britain’s ITV has removed himself from contention for the post. Simon Fox, who heads the British music and DVD retailer HMV, told his board he intends to stay with the company to complete a three-year restructuring plan, Variety reported Monday. ITV, public service network of British commercial television broadcasters, had been expected to name its new CEO last week as it publishes financial results, projecting a net loss of $117 million for the first six months of 2009, industry trade publications are reporting. The candidates reported still in contention include Pascal Cagni, Apple‘s head in Europe; Tony Ball, chairman of Kabel Deutschland; and John Cresswell, the former CEO of local satellite giant BSkyB and ITV’s chief operating officer.

O2 now has an agreement with Telmap which will see its personal navigation and mapping service made available to O2 customers on the majority of GPS-enabled handsets sold by O2. To ensure the best possible customer experience, O2 has worked closely with Telmap to optimize the application for use on the O2 network and will be providing first level customer support and billing support. Telmap’s Navigator offers a rich mapping and GPS navigation experience with features including in-car 3D maps with text-to-speech technology, traffic alerts with alternative route options and turn by turn directions while walking. O2 customers will also benefit from access to relevant content including places and businesses, event ticketing, restaurant listings and reviews amongst other premium services. O2 will also incorporate points of interest such as O2 Academy venues and Wi-Fi hotspots. In addition to providing customer service, O2 will make it easy for customers to pay for the Telmap service by integrating the subscription charge onto their mobile phone bill. O2 will also offer the chance for customers to try the service for 14 days before they decide to buy.
