Destructive wildfires are on the rise across the globe. Accurate and timely detection of incipient wildfires from space has the potential to dramatically reduce their severity.
Orbital Sidekick (OSK) has announced their participation in the XPRIZE Wildfire competition. OSK was one of 20 selected qualifying teams participating in the Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track (A).
The company’s proposed solution uses a combination of hyperspectral data and high resolution imagery at critical wavelengths which will allow simultaneous detection of combustion and characterization of fire fuels.
