On the NABSHOW Floor… TeamCast to Present Products and Expertise

April 20, 2017

TeamCast will be offering two presentations about the new ATSC3.0 standard at NAB show 2017 — the first presentation will be given by Gérard FARIA and will explain Single Frequency Networks and how they can further increase the efficiency of ATSC3.0 broadcast infrastructures.

The second paper is jointly presented by Joseph Turbolski, Director Sales Operations at Hitachi Kokusai Electric Comark and Eric PINSON, Sales Director at TeamCast, and will explain how smart digital signal processing can facilitate the use of the very sharp channel filters required to meet the new requirements of the spectrum repack.

VORTEX II

Tyger

Vyper.

TeamCast is releasing at NABSHOW 2017 the new VORTEX II product that's dedicated to ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 networks. VORTEX II comes as a ready-to-use stand-alone rack modulator/exciter, specifically designed to be integrated inside new and existing DTV transmitters. Its DualCast modulation capability meets Broadcaster’s requirements for smooth and straightforward transition from ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 using the same hardware platform. In ATSC 1.0, VORTEX II integrates unique and unmatched Precorrection techniques to compensate “Very-Sharp Tuned” filter nonlinearities. Obviously with the current FCC repack it is expected that digital adjacent channel cases will become more of a requirement to accommodate all US broadcasters. Thus, more complex and “Very-Sharp Tuned” filters will be required and will have to be properly pre-corrected by the modulator.

Compared with the first generation, ATSC 3.0 standard is considered as a “revolution” rather an evolution. Several specific requirements such as the use of IP interfaces rather TS/ASI, the implementation of complex input IP packet buffer and multi-layers PLP (Physical Layer Pipes) frame builder and the possibility for future waveform support (thanks to the bootstrap signalling) has conducted TeamCast’s engineers to completely revised the modulator hardware implementation for a more powerful and IP centric design architecture.

VORTEX II comes as a very innovative solution for the TV exciter market, bringing several key features to ease the integration within transmitter design and to achieve high level RF performance. This includes state-of-the-art Digital Adaptive Pre-correction, an Automatic Gain Control (AGC) process to ensure the correct output power stability and monitoring of key transmitting power measurements such as Forward Transmitted Power and Reflected Power levels.

The company will also present TYGER, a high capacity DVB-S2X modulator for demanding broadcast and broadband satellite services at NAB show 2017. This new satellite modulator offers the same high level of performance as the well known DVB-S/S2/S2X VYPER modulators, with the benefit of an unprecedented high throughput. Tyger offers rates up to 480 Mbaud for DVB-S2 and DVB-S2X standards, meaning up to 2 Gbps useful rates. For IP transport, TYGER uses the latest GSE adaptation algorithm. This insures lower overhead and maximized capacity and spectrum efficiency.

TYGER is also meeting the requirements of the DVB “Annex M”, making it capable of mixing services (broadcast and broadband) over the same satellite carrier. Specifically, it supports Time-Slicing, a process to split a wideband signal – up to 2 Gbps – into a great number of independent low rates services, in order to keep the receiver ICs complexity and price low, which is a mandatory requirement for a mass market adoption.

Additionally, TeamCast will be promoting their Carrier ID solution at this show. DVB-CID is a standardized key feature which helps satellite users and operators to quickly solve satellite interference problems. TeamCast has designed a complete solution (transmission and reception) which deals with this latest feature also called Carrier ID. Thanks to TeamCast’s range of products, satellite users can easily check and prove that they are compliant with this new requirement which is becoming mandatory by regulation. TeamCast will demo how the firm's VYPER satellite modulator is adding the CID carrier to the transmitted carrier so that the resulting signal can be easily tracked and identified with proper receiving equipment. Compatibility of TeamCast’s CID equipment has been checked with other vendors’ equipment, including the Rohde & Schwarz Broadcast Test Center (BTC).

All of TeamCast’s products will be on display at booth #SU6505.
