Moving away from tradition and into the future, “Age of Stupid,” the new feature film on the environment, premiered on the Green Carpet at the Sydney Theatre Company. Lead by two penguins, a koala, and the director, Franny Armstrong, the premiere was delivered via live satellite to cinemas across Australia and New Zealand. Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated future world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking — why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance? It was released in U.K. cinemas on March 20, 2009, transmitted live to Australia and New Zealand on the 19th of August, and will continue its satellite delivered releases in North America on September 21 and globally on September 22.
The Australia / New Zealand premiere was produced and transmitted by Global Vision Networks, a Sydney based company with operations across the Asia Pacific region, Europe, and the Middle East. Using 100 percent accredited green energy provided by Green Elephant Events and solar panels, Global Vision enabled thousands of Australians to attend the national premiere at their local cinema, thus saving on the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions that result when people need to travel a great distance to one central location. Global Vision’s Operations Director, Adrian McCarten, was responsible for the production and transmission of the show.
