Inmarsat Partners w/Singapore Airlines ...Takes On High-Speed Connectivity

[Satnews] Inmarsat has confirmed that Singapore Airlines is to deploy its GX Aviation high-speed connectivity service for passengers on-board its long-haul fleet.

The services are procured by the airline from Inmarsat’s partner SITA OnAir and will be powered by Honeywell’s JetWave satellite communications hardware. See Satnews' article regarding this matter.

The first installation is scheduled for the second half of 2016, starting with Singapore Airlines’ Boeing B777-300ER aircraft, which will be followed by its Airbus A380-800s and A350-900s.

“In-flight connectivity is a major focus area for airlines across the world and Global Xpress marks the first time that they can offer a reliable, consistent and high-speed solution to their passengers with global coverage,” said Leo Mondale, President of Inmarsat Aviation.

“The fact that a world-class airline such as Singapore Airlines has selected Global Xpress is further testament to the strength of our offering and we congratulate our partners Honeywell Aerospace and SITA OnAir on this exciting development.”

Ian Dawkins, CEO of SITA OnAir said: “Singapore Airlines is one of the most respected carriers in the world. By choosing SITAONAIR services, it clearly demonstrates the superiority of GX in terms of passenger experience, reliable and global coverage.”

“What is particularly exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can do with connectivity. The introduction of GX Aviation opens up a whole new world of opportunities for the connected aircraft.”

“Singapore Airlines is known for its world-class service and sees the value of high-speed Wi-Fi to keep its passengers connected, even when on transoceanic flights,” said Brian Davis, Vice President, Airlines, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace.

“JetWave and Global Xpress will transform the way passengers and crew communicate in the cabin, cockpit and on the ground, and it has the capacity to meet current as well as future needs.”

GX Aviation delivers high-speed broadband connectivity over Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) constellation, enabling passengers to receive the same fast, seamless and reliable connectivity experience in the air as they do on the ground.

Following the successful launch of the third Global Xpress satellite in August 2015, Global Xpress is on track for the introduction of global commercial service by the end of the year.
