HELSINKI, Finland and ABU DHABI, UAE – August 4, 2026 – Establishing dedicated local leadership as it deepens a partnership that predates its first Emirati satellite, synthetic aperture radar operator ICEYE announced on August 3, 2026, the appointment of Christos Kolimenakis as Chief Executive Officer of ICEYE UAE. The appointment gives the company a resident executive in Abu Dhabi and adds a national leadership layer to a relationship that already includes a satellite manufacturing joint venture and spacecraft integrated on Emirati soil.
A Banking Profile Rather Than an Aerospace One
Kolimenakis arrives from a 15-year career at JPMorgan Chase, most recently as a Managing Director in the bank’s UAE office, where he led Innovation Economy coverage across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. That remit placed him opposite growth-stage technology companies and the sovereign and institutional capital backing them, and it built a network across the regional technology ecosystem rather than inside the satellite industry. The choice signals a role weighted toward capital formation, government relations and commercial expansion rather than programme execution.
What He Inherits
The Emirati relationship is not a standing start. Bayanat and Yahsat — since merged into Space42 — announced a joint programme with ICEYE in May 2023 to build national radar imaging capability, and Foresight-1, the UAE’s first SAR satellite, reached orbit in August 2024. In December 2024 the two companies went further and announced a joint venture to bring satellite manufacturing into the country. By October 2025, Space42 had completed assembly, integration and testing of Foresight-3, -4 and -5 in the UAE under a distributed model in which spacecraft are built in Finland, integrated and tested in the Emirates, then shipped to the United States for launch. Kolimenakis therefore takes over a portfolio with an industrial footprint already in place, not a market ICEYE is entering for the first time.
