The leading pay-TV operator in sub-Sharan Africa, MultiChoice Africa, is boosting its capacity with new leases with Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) via their SESAT 1 satellite. These capacity leases are to expand the firm’s pay TV and Internet services in their target market. MultiChoice Africa will be able to extend the range of digital channels to subscribers in central and east Africa as well as offer residential and corporate customers Internet access.
This expansion effort required the lease of four new Ku-band transponders the Eutelsat’s SESAT 1 satellite. MultiChoice Africa now is using 13 transponders to service a subscriber base of more than 450,000 homes across 48 countries that already receive their DStv platform. This is comprised of 70 TV and 40 audio channels catering to English, Portuguese, Indian and French-speaking communities—Paris, France—August 31, 2007
