OSLO, NORWAY: August 16, 2007—Satnews Daily—A DKK 20 million contract has been awarded to Thrane & Thrane by Inmarsat to supply and install two Radio Network Controller stations in Hawaii. Now, that’s tough duty to be sure. This is one of the first contracts for the start of the necessary BGAN infrastructure to support the 3rd Inmarsat-4 satellite.
It’s expected to require some two fiscal years to complete this work, with equipment installation’s completion to occur during this fiscal year, and integration and testing scheduled for the following year. Thrane & Thrane has worked with Inmarsat ever since 2001 in the design, manufacture and installation of the BGAN Radio Network infrastructure, earning the company more than DKK 50 million.
This new contract opens up the Pacific Ocean for BGAN coverage, to include large merchant vessels and aircraft whose needs will be met when FleetBroadband and SwiftBroadband services are introduced.
