- MUMBAI, INDIA: August 15, 2007—Satnews Daily—Currently, booked transponder slots are unable to meet demand for telecom services in India. And that is why the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is considering the development of a Multiband, 24-transponder satellite. This craft would be built by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and is expected to cost about $500 million. A Mix of C-, Ku- and Ka-band transponders would be aboard. It’s expected about one to three years would be required to launch this type of satellite.
- NEWTOWN, CONNECTICUT: August 15, 2007—Satnews Daily—Over the next ten years, the satellite market is projected to generate the delivery of almost 300 satellites… this according to a new study from Forecast International. Most of the business appears to be head overseas. In fact, the company believes any U.S. share of new satellite orders is in for a downturn. In the report entitled “Commercial Communications Satellites, 2007-2016”, Forecast International says some 218 geostationary and medium-Earth orbit satellites will be delivered during that time frame. The value of these deliveries is estimated to be close to $26 billion. When it comes to low-Earth orbiting satellites, the projected $927 million is for about 70 new satellites. Over the past three years, the U.S. manufacturing share has dipped by about 30 percent.
