July 29, 2026 – Semiconductor manufacturer Everspin Technologies, Inc. announced on July 29, 2026, that satellite manufacturer Astro Digital has selected its PERSYST 64Mb Spin-Transfer Torque Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (STT-MRAM) for an upcoming Raven bus geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO) satellite mission.

Astro Digital will integrate Everspin’s EM064LXAQDG13IS1T 64Mb STT-MRAM device into its proprietary Raven spacecraft bus architecture as the primary fail-safe memory for the system boot process. In satellite avionics systems, boot memory stores the core instruction code required to initialize electronic subsystems, manage system recovery procedures, and record critical telemetry log data.
Non-Volatile Memory Architecture and High-Speed Specifications
The selected PERSYST memory solution combines persistent data retention with high-speed read and write operational cycles designed for demanding embedded aerospace environments. The memory units utilize an industry-standard Quad Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) to simplify board integration while providing significantly faster write speeds than standard NOR flash memory, reducing total system startup overhead and processing latency during orbital initialization.
The selection expands Astro Digital’s component portfolio as the manufacturer scales its bus architectures across various mission parameters, having previously executed constellation hardware programs such as EchoStar’s S-band mobile satellite network and integrated sustainable spaceflight hardware through partnerships with Astroscale.
Geosynchronous Environment and Radiation Resilience
Satellites operating in geosynchronous orbit face continuous exposure to severe radiation and single-event effects over multi-year mission lifetimes. Persistent MRAM provides inherent radiation tolerance, high write endurance, and non-volatility that maintains boot information intact without drawing power, supporting spacecraft system recovery even after unplanned power disruptions.
