WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a significant step toward modernizing military communications, Energration and Atombeam have jointly submitted a proposal to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to advance Neurpac-16. This AI-driven technology is specifically engineered to optimize data movement across constrained tactical networks, including legacy Link 16 systems and modern satellite infrastructures.

The joint effort addresses a critical bottleneck in contemporary defense operations: the urgent need for high-bandwidth, low-latency data transmission in contested, edge environments.
Optimizing the “Kill Chain” in Orbit
As the Department of Defense (DoD) actively shifts its focus toward operationalizing the “Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture” (PWSA), maintaining active “Fire Control” across all domains has become paramount. The proposal by Energration and Atombeam directly supports this transition by revolutionizing how data is packaged, transmitted, and utilized at the tactical edge.
Key operational advantages of the proposed Neurpac-16 technology include:
- Enhanced Bandwidth & Latency: Dramatically improving the efficiency of data flow across highly constrained radio frequency (RF) networks, ensuring that actionable intelligence reaches warfighters in real time.
- Edge Integration: Providing critical, mission-ready connectivity for autonomous systems, drones, robotics, and connected machines deployed at the tactical edge.
- Commercial-to-Military Pipeline: Reflecting the broader defense strategy of integrating advanced commercial capabilities directly into the military’s orbital and terrestrial “Kill Chain”.
Strategic Industry Expertise
Underscoring the strategic relevance of this initiative to the defense space sector, the technology’s development is being guided by top-tier military space expertise. The initiative benefits from the strategic oversight of a former Program Executive Officer for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) and Space, who currently serves on the board.
By significantly increasing the efficiency of existing tactical networks alongside proliferated satellite constellations, Neurpac-16 aims to ensure that defense forces can seamlessly operate and share data. This technology accelerates the ongoing shift from treating space merely as a support domain to embedding it as a deeply integrated, active operational layer.
