Space Industries debuts: 15 million euros invested to produce more than 200 satellites a year

March 13, 2025

Space Industries S.p.A., a new company in the Space sector specializing in the assembly, integration and testing of satellites up to 500 kg, is born. The company was founded at the initiative of the Micelli family, owners of the Comat Group—the majority shareholder—and Giuseppe Santangelo, in the role of CEO.

Santangelo was CEO of Teoresi S.p.A. from 2008 to 2013 before moving to the U.S. where, in 2014, he founded Skypersonic, Inc., later listed on NASDAQ in 2020 along with Red Cat. He returned to Italy in 2023 to become the managing director of Tyvak International and he has been the CEO of Space Industries S.p.A. since February of 2025.

Space Industries is headquartered at Palazzo Asinari di San Marzano, in the heart of the Savoy capital. It has also already become the headquarters of one of the company’s partners, the startup Ecosmic, which specializes in monitoring traffic and space debris. The production plant is in Settimo Torinese. The total production area will cover about 6,000 square meters, of which about 3,000 square meters will be modular Clean Room, making it one of the largest in Europe.

By optimizing space and processes, Space Industries will be able, by 2030, to build as many as 40 satellites in parallel, taking 100 days to make one satellite, with the goal of producing one satellite per working day for an estimated more than 200 satellites per year.

Process and product optimizations also arise from the enhancement of automotive expertise. By bringing transversal expertise into system, Space Industries aims not only to create value in terms of industrial production, but also to bring a positive impact on the territory by enhancing a production chain that constitutes a heritage of know-how and experience unique in the world. Through this model, production efficiency is estimated to increase by up to 30 percent each satellite.

Economically, the total planned investments are 15 million euros, with the creation of about 300 jobs over the next five years. Among the professions sought to continue to build the company are AIT engineers and technicians, mechanics, computer scientists, electronics, sales managers, as well as administrative and management figures. It is also estimated to create a dedicated supply chain of about 500 professionals.

Space Industries’ business model also passes through the creation and consolidation of strategic partnerships with companies in the industry.  With a sales network in five countries (Italy, U.S.A., Norway, U.A.E., Turkey and India) that will be further expanded as early as 2026, Space Industries aims to attract business opportunities on the ground, and to ground them on the basis of a principle of strong collaboration with other industrial players.

As for the Palazzo Asinari in San Marzano, this is a choice that Space Industries strongly believes in. Its function will be twofold. First, it will be a garrison of Space in the heart of Turin. The idea is to make it a building open to popular opportunities related to astrophysics, space engineering, astronomy and all disciplines related to what is beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. Book presentations, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, displays, and co-working are just some of the possibilities to further enhance these courtly areas.

Second, Palazzo Carpano (another name of the building) will be the headquarters of the Inspire 4 Tomorrow foundation, which was unveiled at the United Nations Headquarters on February 5th. The foundation, of which Giuseppe Santangelo is among the Directors, aims to ground the actions of the 2030 Agenda. These include putting technology at the service of the Planet, its protection and the protection and development of local communities.

The opening of Space Industries’ production space will occur by the fall of 2025.

“I am proud to lead this new venture,” said Giuseppe Santangelo, CEO and co-founder of Space Industries. “Space Industries is positioned in a market space that is still underserved, giving the opportunity for the many companies and startups that do not have manufacturing space to become our customers and integrate their products in a fast, cost-effective, efficient and scalable way. We aim to become a no-brainer choice when it comes to satellite assembly, integration and testing.

“Space Industries is an open model, it needs other partners to be able to multiply value, which is why the values of collaboration, reliability, responsibility and innovation are at the heart of what we do. We are ready to welcome anyone who wants to play an active role in this project and seize the many opportunities in the private sector that are coming to life in the global space economy.”
