On May 12, 2026, iDirect Government (iDirectGov) announced the commercial release of its 450 Rackmount (RM) software-defined modem (SDM). The 450RM is designed to provide high-resiliency satellite communications for military and government users across multi-orbit constellations and diverse waveforms, packaged in a compact half-rack form factor optimized for space-constrained tactical environments.

Evolution of the 4-Series SDM Architecture
The 450RM represents the rackmount adaptation of the REVOLUTION 450mp man-portable modem, which was launched in January 2026 to support tactical edge users. Both units are powered by the 4-Series SDM architecture, a software-defined platform that allows operators to switch between waveforms and satellite service providers via encrypted archive files.
This architecture integrates iDirectGov’s Communication Signal Interference Removal (CSIR) technology, which provides real-time interference excision to maintain connectivity in contested or jammed environments. By utilizing a software-defined approach, the modem can function as a standalone connectivity node or as a CSIR appliance for external third-party modems, offering a layer of “anti-jam” protection across legacy and next-generation terminal designs.
Multi-Orbit and Multi-Waveform Interoperability
The 450RM is engineered for seamless operation across geostationary (GEO), highly elliptical (HEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations. It supports a wide array of networks and standards required for joint all-domain operations.
- Supported Networks: Evolution Defense, Viasat GX, SES Flex, and DVB-S2X.
- Military Standards: MIL-STD-188-165B Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modem (EBEM).
- Throughput: Capable of supporting symbol rates up to 125 Msps on both transmit and receive paths.
- Security: FIPS 140-3 Level 3 approved AES Cryptographic engine and TRANSEC-compliant network design.
Space-Efficient Tactical Design
Designed specifically for the “tactical edge,” the 450RM utilizes a half-rack width, allowing two units to be mounted side-by-side in a standard 1U rack space. This 30 percent reduction in size, weight, and power (SWaP) compared to previous generation defense modems allows for redundant connectivity or dual-network operations within the same physical footprint used by a single legacy device.
“The 450RM is resilient, secure and flexible to suit our troops’ satellite communications at the tactical edge,” said Tim Winter, President of iDirect Government. “Its multi-technology architecture delivers optimized performance and efficient operations.”
Operational Availability and Certifications
The 450RM is currently in production and available for integration into airborne, maritime, and land-based communication-on-the-move (COTM) platforms. The unit is designed and tested to MIL-STD-810H standards for vibration, shock, and extreme temperatures. iDirectGov confirmed that Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) certification for the 450RM is currently pending, with full authorization expected by late 2026.
