Asia and the South Pacific have Iridium Satellite enjoying a a dance of joy, as there have been significant increases in regional traffic as well as the addition of new partners. All of this good news is attendant with across-the-board growth through the Iridium quarterly financial results posted last July.
“Year-over-year, maritime traffic in the region has grown by 22 percent and land-based traffic by 26 percent,” said Greg Ewert, executive vice president of Iridium Satellite. “In the last three months alone, traffic in the Asia/Pacific market has increased by 50 percent over the same period last year. In Australia, for example, Iridium continues to win thousands of customers previously served by competing mobile satellite service providers. And, we are seeing our partners launching more new and innovative data applications than ever before to exploit the power and reach of the Iridium network.”
On top of this, the Iridium “ecosystem” of partners is a key contributor to the company’s increased presence around the world. Iridium has recently signed two new partners in Asia – Monsat LLC of Mongolia and Kemilinks International in Singapore. Monsat LLC, part of the MCS Group, is Iridium’s first service provider in Mongolia. The company offers voice and data services to businesses operating in remote areas where cellular coverage is poor or nonexistent and traditional communication services are unavailable. Monsat customers include mining companies, geologists, travel enterprises, government organizations, military services and businesses. Kemilinks International, an Iridium value-added reseller, was established in 2001 to provide a wide range of mobile satellite products and services for maritime and land-based applications to customers within Singapore and surrounding countries. The company holds a Service Based Operator license from Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority—Bethesda, Maryland
