The Swedish Armed Forces have purchased Iridium satellite services for the newly formed Nordic Battle Group. Service will be initiated at the close of this year. The Iridium satellite services are being supplied under a service agreement with IDG Europe AB. They will be used for a wide range of voice and data communications applications.
The Nordic Battle Group will consist of approximately 2,400 officers and soldiers, from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Ireland and Estonia. The headquarters unit was commissioned in May 2007 at Enköping, Sweden. The full group will be ready for deployment in the service of the European Union on January 1, 2008—Bethesda, Maryland
