On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, IEC Telecom Group officially launched its first operations center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The expansion establishes the company as an authorized Starlink reseller in the region, focusing on bridging the “last-mile” connectivity gap in East Malaysia and supporting the nation’s maritime and energy sectors.

The move marks IEC Telecom’s third office in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, following two decades of operational presence in Singapore and the surrounding territories.
National Digital Infrastructure Context
The launch aligns with the final phases of Malaysia’s National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA). While JENDELA Phase One achieved 99.71% internet coverage in populated areas by the end of 2025—up from 91.8% in 2020—significant gaps remain in rural Sarawak and Sabah. Government data from mid-2025 indicated that 5G penetration in these regions lagged at approximately 63.8% and 68.6%, respectively. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology as a critical interim solution for off-grid communities and remote educational facilities.
Managed Connectivity Ecosystems
Unlike standard consumer Starlink kits, IEC Telecom Malaysia provides “enterprise-grade” integrated ecosystems designed for mission-critical reliability. These managed architectures utilize the company’s proprietary OneGate network management layer, which allows for centralized visibility and performance optimization. These solutions are specifically engineered for the maritime sector—traditionally dependent on legacy satcom—and for mobile operations where vehicles are transformed into connected hubs for first responders and field teams.
Strategic Rationale for Southeast Asian Expansion
The establishment of a local office follows a successful 2024 Proof of Concept (PoC) in Hulu Selangor, where satellite backhaul provided broadband access to indigenous Orang Asli communities. Antoine Veillon, Group CEO of IEC Telecom, noted that the Malaysia office reinforces the group’s commitment to advancing “future-ready” connectivity across the region. By combining LEO capacity with hybrid GEO and LTE architectures, the company aims to ensure service continuity in environments where terrestrial infrastructure is either congested or unavailable.
Timeline for Regional Deployment
IEC Telecom Malaysia has already secured the necessary licensing from the MCMC and will begin deploying customized setups for government and industrial logistics in Q2 2026. The company is also scheduled to present its maritime-specific Starlink portfolios at the upcoming Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2026 in April, targeting coastal fleets and offshore energy operators.
