The upcoming MEASAT-1R has now been renamed MEASAT-3a and the satellite has been allocated a launch window during Q3 of this year. This was just announced by MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn Bhd. MEASAT-3a is being built by the highly experienced folk at Orbital Sciences Inc. and MEASAT-3a will wend its way into orbit, courtesy of a LandLaunch Zenith-3SL launch vehicle.
MEASAT-3a will provide 12, high-powered, C-band transponders. These will offer coverage in Africa and Eastern Europe in the west and Japan and Australia in the east with 12- Ku-band transponders available for Malaysian and Indonesian DTH customers. MEASAT’s fleet is able to currently provide satellite capacity over 145 countries that represent some 80 percent of the world’s population. MEASAT-3a will co-locate with the company’s MEASAT-3 at the 91.5° E orbital hot slot—Kuala Lumpur
