Euroconsult, a firm involved in international research and specialized analysis within the satellite and digital broadcasting sectors, has reported growth in the fixed satellite market continues at a healthy pace, driven largely by digital entertainment and, more specifically, emerging digital markets. Accelerated deployments of corporate networks, significant needs for military communications and the takeoff of broadband access also contributed to growth. According to Euroconsult’s recently-issued report “World Satellite Communications & Broadcasting Markets Survey, Market Forecasts to 2016”, the fixed satellite sector grew in terms of both transponder demand (+5 percent) and overall revenues (+8 percent) with emerging satellite markets playing an important role in this development.
The Euroconsult report breaks the world down into twelve regions and indicates growth in transponder demand in seven of the twelve regions stood higher than 6 percent, with growth rates higher than 9 percent reported for example in Russia & Central Asia (+19 percent), Oceania & Pacific (+13 percent), the Middle East & North Africa (+9 percent) and Sub Saharan Africa (+9 percent). Euroconsult expects the traditional FSS market to reach almost $11.2 billion in 2016 with Europe remaining the largest market at $3 billion in annual revenues. The addition of wholesale revenues from emerging systems dedicated to satellite consumer broadband access would bring that global market value to $12.5 billion by 2016.
