SUMMARY:WTA Webinar: How to Talk to Regulators About Risks to Your Spectrum
DESCRIPTION:Always important\, spectrum has become a critical business issue for teleport and satellite operators. Driving the change is re-allocation of portions of C-Band for mobile\, the C-Band repack in the US\, and preparations among regulators for the WRC 2023 international meeting. Despite the fact that mobile network operators have not fully deployed services on the capacity they have licensed\, they will continue to make the case to open more and more satellite bands for terrestrial use\, with significant impact on satellite-dependent operators and customers. \nTeleport operators often believe that they have little role to play in spectrum negotiations at the international and national level. But this is far from the truth. Because they are licensed at the national level\, regulators have a legal obligation to take their needs into account. What regulators need to hear are the economic and business impacts of interference arising from ill-considered spectrum-sharing rules: the critical services that run on teleport networks\, the locations from which teleports operate and their experience to date with mobile interference. While international policy is agreed at WRC\, its implementation rests with national regulators\, and that is where teleport executives can make a difference. In partnership with SES\, WTA is making available action-oriented content to keep teleport operators advised on WRC-2023 and other spectrum developments. We leave the regulatory and political details to others and focus on what you\, as an executive in the ground segment business\, can do to preserve your access to spectrum and manage rising interference from mobile networks. \nIn this webinar\, WTA joins with experts from SES to describe specific steps that teleport operators can take to influence national regulators and preserve their access to the spectrum needed to grow their businesses. \nSpeakers include: \n\nLuis Emiliani\, Manager\, Spectrum Development\, Americas\, SES\nPetra Vorwig\, Vice President\, Legal & Regulatory Affairs\, EMEA & APAC\, SES\nRobert Bell\, Executive Director\, WTA (moderator)\nRandall Barney\, Director of Certification & Membership\, WTA (moderator)\n\nLearn More and Register

SUMMARY:Upcoming Webinar: Building a Better NOC
DESCRIPTION:The NOC is the beating heart of satellite and teleport operators’ networks that deliver value to customers. As the fundamental building block for a successful operation\, it is where customer services are managed and triaged; it is where transmission equipment is monitored and controlled; and it is where third party suppliers are coordinated. It is also where service incidents and operational changes are dealt with and all key operational activities are carried out. NOCs are generally resourced with highly experienced operators who can manage multiple systems and technologies across multiple vendor service providers and potentially large volumes of customers.

SUMMARY:Towards Affordable Terminals: Ironing Out Cost Challenges to Provide High-speed Connectivity
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, November 16th at Space Tech Expo Europe 2021 \nTerminals play a key role in the future of onboard connectivity. There is tremendous development on flat panel and phased array antennas\, which will ultimately provide faster latency and connectivity and enhance passenger and crew experience. \nHowever\, terminal installation is expensive and does not prove to be cost-effective for many airlines and ship owners. The certification process for new terminals\, as well as lifecycle operations\, maintenance and repair come at a high price – most costs tend to fall to airlines and ship owners. \nEnd-users would need to sell many tickets to pay back the mechanical engineering on vessels and aircraft to justify the solution. Fleet owners would also need to decide on type of antenna for several years – once installed it is not easy to switch. \nDiscussion topics include: \n\nThe cost of antennas and terminals remains high – what can industry do to make this more cost-effective?\nCertification\, installation\, life cycle operations\, maintenance and repair\nThe latest on terminal architecture and solutions: multi-beam\, phased array\, flat panel and developments on high bandwidth/low latency solutions\nHow to decide on a terminal for future use and making sure its technology remains feasible 5-10 years down the line?\n\nSpeakers include: \n\nMatteo Berioli\, Senior Director Connectivity\, SAFRAN Passenger Innovations\nJan Hetland\, Director\, Data Services Division\, Telenor Satellite\nRandall Barney\, Director of Certification & Membership\, World Teleport Association (moderator)
