SUMMARY:Italy’s Commercial\, Defense Aviation and Space Industries: Opportunities for US exporters
DESCRIPTION:Italy is home to Leonardo Company\, one of the world’s largest corporations in the industry. The company operates in commercial\, defense and space segments and is active around the world. The country is also home to a vibrant aerospace industry that offers opportunities to US companies that are looking to expand their footprints. Such world players as the Boeing Company\, Elbit Systems\, GE also have significant business in the country.\nThe most significant place for US exporters to connect with this ecosystem and explore possibilities is the Aerospace & Defense Meetings Torino. The next edition is coming up on November 28-30\, 2023 in Turin.\nADM Torino is not a typical exhibition where it’s nearly impossible to schedule meetings with OEMs and Tier1s. It’s a matchmaking event\, organized by BCI Aerospace\, the organizer of the Aeromart and A&DSS Seattle series of events.\nBCI Aerospace’s format implements a vetting process to ensure that each participant is a good fit. All approved participants will gain access to an online directory showing detailed descriptions of the 350 registered companies\, send out meeting requests\, and secure one-on-one meetings.\n\nThis short video will show you the event in full motion. \nAerospace & Defense Meetings Torino: Registration and Questions\nContact Alain Ngoie at angoie@advbe.com

SUMMARY:Ground Segment: Just a Service?
DESCRIPTION:Ground-segment-as-a-service can sound like a contradiction in terms. No one has yet invented the data system that can exchange RF with orbiting satellites on its own. Physical communications infrastructure\, from antennas and HPAS to modems and digitizers\, are required to close the links\, not to mention the staffing\, expertise and management systems to make it happen. But GSaaS is a reality\, and traditional ground segment service providers risk finding themselves in the place of taxi drivers who kept driving around looking for fares while rideshare companies were giving their customers the power to book a ride on their smartphones. In this webinar\, WTA examines the differing business models of today’s GSaaS providers\, the markets they serve\, and the benefits and risks of integrating a teleport’s physical and data systems with this new class of service providers. \nSpeakers include: \n\nBrad Bode\, CTO & CIO\, ATLAS Space Operations\nChristopher Richins\, CEO\, RBC Signals\nMichel Dothey\, CCO\, neXat

SUMMARY:Launch: Why Billionaires Matter
DESCRIPTION:As we know\, space is anything but a “just a playground for the rich.” In fact\, it is where fortunes will be made and unthinkable discoveries\, life-altering science and new philosophies and religions will emerge. It is where our species will go to continue its persistence here on Earth. Presumably\, as Jeff Bezos said\, “going there will make life here much better.” \nBut to get there we need to actually GET THERE! And to get there more often\, more affordably and more reliably. And more of us. Thanks to billionaires\, we have started to do that\, and it has opened up the pathway for new infrastructure and services. \nIn this month’s Roundtable we look the realities of Launch investments and businesses in 2023: \n\nIs launch sustainable enough for space infrastructure to now go forward?\nWhich launch providers are coming out the pack successfully and why?\nWhere should investors look when it comes to launch and related companies and services?\nWhat are the key mission areas over the next decade?\nMust vertical integration begin to happen? How about consolidation?\nIs Rocket Labs the “quiet” star of launch?\nWhat happened to Virgin Orbit?

SUMMARY:The Colorado Ultraviolet Transit Experiment: Chasing Big Planets with a Small Satellite
DESCRIPTION:NASA Small Spacecraft Systems Virtual Institute’s\nCommunity of Practice Webinar Series\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us on  Wednesday\, April 12\, 2023\, 10:00AM-11:00AM PT for a webinar by Kevin France.\n\nLaboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado Boulder\n\n\nAtmospheric escape is a process that affects the structure\, composition\, and evolution of many planets. The signatures of this escape are detectable on close-in\, gaseous exoplanets orbiting bright stars\, owing to the high levels of extreme-ultraviolet irradiance from their nearby parent stars. The Colorado Ultraviolet Transit Experiment (CUTE) is a 6U CubeSat mission designed to take advantage of the near-ultraviolet stellar brightness distribution to conduct a survey of the extended atmospheres of nearby close-in planets. The CUTE payload is a near-ultraviolet (2487 – 3376 Ang) spectrograph fed by a rectangular\, Cassegrain telescope (206 mm x 84mm); the spectrogram is recorded on a back-illuminated\, UV-enhanced CCD. CUTE was launched into a polar\, low-Earth orbit on 27 September 2021 and has been conducting this survey following an on-orbit commissioning period. An overview of the CUTE mission will be presented\, including its motivation and development path. The presentation will conclude with on-orbit science data and observations of excess NUV absorption on short-period planets acquired as part of CUTE’s science program.\n\nS3VI encourages the community to submit questions before the webinar to enable more directed responses. Please send questions to: Craig.D.Burkhard@nasa.gov

SUMMARY:Antenna Innovations: The Next Generation
DESCRIPTION:Over recent years\, innovations in satellite ground terminal antennas have had various drivers. Developments in space such as HTS in GEO and emergence of satellites in MEO and LEO have led to some innovations while other innovations have been driven by demand for multi-band/multi-frequency antennas and antennas able to provide satcoms-on-the-move solutions. Even more innovations have been driven by demand for ease of installation\, link budget efficiency\, space and weight saving designs\, and\, not least\, lower cost. \n\nThe antenna environment is one of many technology types\, labelled with various acronyms and abbreviations. For example: the parabolic antenna\, sometimes with complex gimbal mounts; the generically termed Flat Panel Antenna (or FPA)\, which has long offered a niche\, but until recently very expensive\, alternative to parabolic antennas; the Electronically Steered Antenna (ESA)\, the Passive Electronically Scanned Array (PESA)\, and the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) which can radiate multiple beams of radio waves in different directions\, at multiple frequencies\, at the same time.\n\nThis highly dynamic segment of the satcoms sector will be explored by this panel of industry experts who will unravel its current complexities and explain the likely direction of the next and future antenna generations.
