Redwire Partners with Kanematsu to Expand Space Infrastructure and Microgravity Technology Portfolio in Japan

August 12, 2026

On August 12, 2026, space infrastructure provider Redwire Corporation announced a strategic teaming agreement with Japanese trading and commercial development firm Kanematsu Corporation.

Under the agreement, Kanematsu will serve as Redwire’s commercial partner in Japan, supporting business development across both public and private sector markets for space power generation systems, microgravity research payloads, and space robotics technology.

The partnership aims to integrate Redwire’s spaceflight hardware with Kanematsu’s commercial networks to support the expansion of Japan’s domestic space sector.

Formalization and Japanese Market Heritage

The agreement follows the initial signing executed by executive leadership on July 8, 2026, during the annual SPACETIDE space conference held at Kanematsu Headquarters in Tokyo. The commercial framework establishes a direct distribution pathway for Redwire products into Japanese institutional and commercial space projects.

The initiative builds upon growing ties between Western space infrastructure developers and Japanese aerospace organizations. As reported in SatNews detailing commercial payload partnerships for the Haven-1 LEO station, Redwire has actively collaborated alongside Japanese entities, such as Japan Manned Space Systems Corporation (JAMSS), to support orbital microgravity research.

Furthermore, as noted in recent analyses of commercial LEO investment and international alliances, Japan’s long-standing hardware heritage with the International Space Station provides a structured market for commercial space station components, advanced robotics, and satellite subsystems.

Technology Portfolio and Infrastructure Capabilities

Under the terms of the agreement, Kanematsu will manage market access, government procurement engagement, and corporate sales in Japan for several core Redwire product lines:

  • In-Space Power Generation: Rollable solar array structures, high-efficiency solar tracking mechanisms, and space power distribution systems designed for small satellites and large orbital stations.
  • Microgravity Payloads: Automated orbital processing equipment, 3D bioprinting systems, industrial crystallization units, and pharmaceutical research payloads operated aboard low Earth orbit platforms.
  • Space Robotics and Mechanisms: High-precision robotic arms, payload end effectors, and berthing mechanisms engineered for satellite servicing, assembly, and station operations.
  • Digital Engineering Solutions: Artificial intelligence-driven space domain software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation platforms for multi-domain operations.

By establishing a local commercial presence through Kanematsu, Redwire aims to streamline local procurement procedures for Japanese satellite manufacturers and research organizations.

“Through our partnership with Kanematsu, we look forward to working alongside Japanese industry to advance innovative space technologies to further bolster Japanese capabilities for a wide variety of commercial, scientific, and national security applications,” stated Mike Gold, President of Redwire Space. “Space-based capabilities impact nearly every aspect of industrial capacity and Redwire looks forward to collaborating with Kanematsu to create innovations in fields as diverse as pharmaceuticals, biotech, power generation, and Earth observation.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Redwire, a proven leader in cutting-edge space infrastructure,” added Ryoichi Kidokoro, Chief Operating Officer of Motor Vehicles & Aerospace at Kanematsu Corporation. “As Japan’s space ecosystem enters a dynamic new era of growth, integrating Redwire’s world-class technologies—from advanced robotics to microgravity payloads—with Kanematsu’s deep market expertise and commercial network will unlock incredible value. Together, we are committed to driving innovation and delivering next-generation space solutions to both public and private customers in Japan.”

Commercial Deployment and Market Integration

Following the August 12 announcement, joint business development teams from Redwire and Kanematsu will initiate market outreach to Japanese commercial satellite developers, national research agencies, and pharmaceutical firms seeking microgravity flight opportunities. The partnership will focus on integrating Redwire hardware into upcoming Japanese public and private satellite missions scheduled for deployment through late 2026 and 2027.
