WORK Microwave Has Been At Work With New Items At CABSAT

January 24, 2012

[SatNews] New solutions, product updates, and technology advancements will be revealed at CABSAT 2012.

WORK Microwave provides frequency converters, and at CABSAT 2012, the company will showcase its wide range of IF, block, and monopulse tracking converters (S to Ka-band).

WORK Microwave will also display its portfolio of modems, modulators, and demodulators, including a live demonstration of the company’s enhanced DVB-S2 IP-Modem SK-IP where an interactive test-bench setup will help attendees experience firsthand the company’s core OptiACM functionality.  Additionally, the WORK Microwave team will share some exciting news about upcoming technologies that will be launched this year, including the combined data and video modem using the innovative DaVid technology.  IP-Modem Key Product and Technology Demos  WORK Microwave’s Digital Solutions

DVB-S/S2 Modulator
CABSAT 2012 Debut — New Generation DVB-S/S2 Modulator: The new-generation DVB-S/S2 modulator by WORK Microwave with 50-180MHz IF and/or L-Band (950-2150MHz) output provides high flexibility for uplink station design. It introduces multistream technology, transport stream over IP (TSoIP), and a new, powerful user interface.

Equipped with multistream technology, the modulator can aggregate up to six transport streams into a single DVB-S2 modulated multistream. This reduces the overall equipment need while increasing the efficiency of the transponder use. TSoIP, in addition to the ASI interface, allows users to take advantage of existing network infrastructure to transport video and data — a functionality that’s becoming increasingly in demand as IP backbones become more robust and stable. This new, powerful, easy-to-use, and intuitive user interface supports easier access to all the new features introduced with this product update. The modulator is also available with an integrated RF up-converter in the desired operating frequency and as custom tailored versions, per WORK Microwave’s standard offer, to meet stringent user requirements specific to operating environments.

Enhanced SK-IP DVB-S2 IP-Modem: At CABSAT 2012 WORK Microwave will display the SK-IP DVB-S2 IP-Modem designed for high-speed network layer two and layer three operations. The device uses Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) according to TS 102 606 and boasts a multichannel ACM system (OptiACM) to support full integration of ACM capabilities in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint satellite network links. The combination of these two core features provides optimized data throughput in all usage cases and under all types of environmental conditions.

Most recent additions to the IP-Modem include:

  • data rate of up to 160Mbit/s
  • traffic shaping and cross layer design for maximum traffic throughput
  • additional power supply for direct connection of BUCs to the IP-Modem
  • new powerful and easier-to-use interface
  • improved single-fan cooling system for efficient
  • temperature control with minimal noise
CABSAT 2012 Demonstration of the IP-Modem: Visitors to WORK Microwave’s CABSAT 2012 stand will be able to view a live demonstration of the features and capabilities of the IP-Modem. A test bench will help attendees learn more about the ACM functionality of the IP-Modem. The interactive test setup will demonstrate how the IP-Modem compensates for disturbances in the satellite link, due to physical conditions such as humidity and precipitation, through real-time adaptation of transmission parameters according to link conditions. The demonstration will include two screens enabling attendees to observe simulated conditions such as noise, data rate, and type of modulation and to witness the flipping over of the constellation diagram.

*Coming Soon* DVB-S2 Modem SK-DV  Combined Data and Video Modem With DaVid Technology  At CABSAT 2012, WORK Microwave will also share important information about its new product, the DVB-S2 Modem SK-DV, a combined data and video modem using DaVid technology, which is due for launch in April. DaVid technology from WORK Microwave offers simultaneous transportation of live broadcasting (video content) and data (network connection) in a single carrier over a satellite link. Teleport operators and broadcasters can now optimize bandwidth, boost data-transport efficiency, and significantly reduce operating expenses by using the new combined data and video modem.

DaVid technology works by aggregating multiple transport streams (up to six) and IP data into a single baseband stream, called multistream, which is then inserted into a broadcast modulator. The modulator sends the single carrier signal over satellite where it is received by multiple receivers that separate and extract specific content parts based on their DVB-S2 Input Stream Identifier (ISI). An important feature of DaVid technology is that it configures all DVB-S2 baseband parameters independently for each stream.

WORK Microwave’s Analog Solutions

Fourth-Generation Frequency Converters  At CABSAT 2012, WORK Microwave will showcase its established range of fourth-generation indoor and outdoor converters. The fourth-generation converters cover the frequency bands S, C, X, Ku, K, and Ka and are available as single, dual, or triple-band converters as well as dual-channel converters. All converters from WORK Microwave feature low phase noise guaranteeing excellent signal quality, while low spurious emissions enable them to be used in environments with demanding requirements such as high-power video uplinks. Additionally, they have the benefit of low power consumption due to up-to-date power supply technology and sophisticated circuit design leading to an even higher reliability and a longer life time. Users of these converters also benefit from a modular architecture that allows highly optimized designs for specific requirements (i.e., frequency range, output power, and conversion gain).
