RRsat Global Communications Network Ltd. (NASDAQ: RRST) is now providing uplink, playout, and connectivity services for fashiontv H3, the 3D programming on the Fashion TV Paris HD channel. Starting on February 18, 2011, for the duration of one week, fashiontv H3D initiated daily 3D broadcasts between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. (local Paris, New York and Hong Kong time) in 10 minute programs, in order to collect feedback from viewers and operators. As a result of the positive feedback, FTV has doubled the shows broadcast as part of the FTV HD programming played out and distributed by RRsat on its DTH platforms on the Intelsat-805 satellite over North, Central and South America; on the EUROBIRD-9A satellite to Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and on the Asiasat-5 satellite to Asia and Australia.

SENCORE will highlight a complete line of products at SATELLITE 2011 that support reliable, consistent, and high-quality satellite signal delivery and monitoring. Additionally, Jeff Briden, vice president of product management and customer satisfaction at SENCORE, will be a featured member on the SATELLITE 2011 panel, MPEG-4 versus MPEG-2: Focus on the Future. The presentation will look at the increased use of H.264 by broadcasters as a compression standard as well as the cost-effective and bandwidth-saving benefits that come with H.264 adoption. The panel is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, at 3:00 p.m. in room 209A.
- First introduced at the 2010 NAB Show, the SENCORE SMD 989 DVB-S2 Modulator will be on display. Packaged as a two-channel, 1RU chassis, the platform offers unprecedented modulation efficiency and extreme flexibility, supporting the modulation of two independent DVB-S2 RF transmissions. The platform provides multistream satellite video delivery, minimizing overall transponder usage, and accepts transport streams via DVB-ASI or IP inputs using the UDP or RTP protocols. Additional SMD 989 DVB-S2 features include an optional agile L-band up-converter with an output frequency range of 950 to 2150 MHz; support for all modulation formats defined in the DVB-S2 standard, including 8-PSK, 16-APSK and 32-APSK; and optional multistream inputs along with an agile RF upconverter.
- The SENCORE TXS 3453 Transcoder delivers multiple channels of best-in-class, high-performance, reliable transcoding and transrating in a high-density 1RU chassis. With a configurable engine and multichannel architecture, the TXS 3453 can perform MPEG2 to H.264 and H.264 to MPEG2 SD and HD transcoding — as well as transrating of MPEG2 or H.264 streams — at an unbeatable cost per channel. Key features include ASI and MPEGoIP transport stream inputs and outputs, plus the ability to compress the output to very low bit rates while maintaining excellent video quality for the end viewer. The TXS offers up to 16 channels of transcoding or transrating in a 1RU rackmount platform.
- The versatile MRD 3187B Receiver Decoder adapts to virtually any contribution, distribution, or backhaul environment and sets the standard for performance, scalable functionality, and cost of ownership. Features include SCTE-35-104 message conversion for commercial insertion applications, DVB-common interface for conditional access decryption, multiservice descrambling, and advanced DVB-S2 capabilities such as 16 and 32-APSK and VCM support. The MRD 3187B also features SENCORE’s 8716 four-port satellite input card. This card supports DVB-S and DVB-S2 demodulation as with previous generation satellite cards, but also includes additional support for the receiver decoder’s advanced features including VCM, 16 and 32-APSK demodulation with 1-45 MSPS capabilities, and multiple transport stream selection via Input Stream Identifier (ISI).
- SENCORE’s Digital Media Gateway 3000 line of multiplexers has added a new 16 QAM channel output module to its already flexible line of IP, ASI, and RF capabilities. The 16-channel module provides enhanced density for digital cable deployments. When multiple QAM modules are placed within a chassis, hundreds of channels can be deployed from a single chassis with the ability to multiplex and descramble, which is currently offered in the DMG product. The DMG 3000 has the ability to receive 8VSB off-air, DVB-S/S2 Satellite, ASI, and IP signals for providing multiplexed IP, ASI, and now QAM outputs.
- With the SENCORE TSM 1770 Transport Stream Monitor, technicians can monitor compressed audio, video, and data services on any satellite network. With full support for ASI, SMPTE 310M, 8-VSB, QAM, and Ethernet physical inputs, the TSM 1770 reports transport stream status on the physical layer, protocol, and audio/video levels. The TSM 1770 also monitors quality-of-service parameters and delivers the results in a straightforward way so even non-experts in MPEG can make decisions that maximize service availability.

The rebranding and further integration of its wholly-owned specialist events, tracking and integrated solutions division, TDCOM, has now been completed by Vizada. Paris based TDCOM will now operate even more closely with Vizada Networks, enabling both organisations to better service the growing events, tracking and integrated solutions communications market with a solid foundation of technical experience and expertise in integrating multiple communications solutions (satellite, radio, mobile). TDCOM has been serving major events customers globally since 1985 and has a proven track record in providing turnkey solutions for sporting and other events of all sizes. Vizada Networks, with TDCOM as its established events division, provides A-Z communications services, covering design, engineering, installation and management for a wide variety of high-profile events, including the Dakar Rally, Tour De France and the 2003 and 2007 Rugby World Cups. Services including airtime, hardware, participant tracking and security, and custom IP services, such as websites where time and positioning from the event can be displayed in real-time for organizers or followers. Sophisticated turnkey communication and tracking services, demonstrated by the extensive solution implemented for the recent Dakar 2011 Edition are the core of TDCOM’s business.
A three VSAT link with capacity of approx. 8 MHz and operational centres at the A-start line, B-finish line and an intermediary point was deployed for organisational communications, in addition to media and team use. WiFi and Wimax were deployed to extend the available coverage whilst kiosks with free internet access were installed for racers and teams to use between stages. The vehicle tracking solution, which enables the organizers to position the cars, trucks and motorcycles along the route, take timings and display this information to fans around the world, was based on TDCOM’s Iritrack solution, which is the de facto industry standard for motorsport events and rallies. All 430 vehicles in the rally were fitted with Iritrack, and could be tracked via Google Earth. Iritrack is key to the racers’ safety and security. It handles alerts and alarms for the medical teams and also features a shock detector, which will send an alert containing the vehicle’s current position if it records a violent impact, which can be vital should the occupants of a vehicle be incapacitated following an accident.
