The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) has approved the A/153 ATSC Mobile DTV Standard. The ballot, tallied at midnight October 15th, was approved with overwhelming support by the full ATSC membership. The ATSC Mobile DTV Standard defines the technical specifications necessary for broadcasters to provide new services to mobile and handheld devices using their digital television (DTV) transmissions. The new services for mobile and handheld devices are carried along with current DTV services without any adverse impact on legacy receiving equipment. ATSC Mobile DTV was developed to support a variety of services including free (advertiser-supported) television and interactive services delivered in real-time, subscription-based TV, and file-based content download for playback at a later time. The standard can also be used for transmission of new data broadcasting services. The ATSC Mobile DTV Standard will enable broadcasters to provide new compelling services to consumers using a wide array of wireless receiving devices including mobile phones, small handheld DTVs, laptop computers and in-vehicle entertainment systems.

Media 100’s Media 100 Suite Version 1.1 is now available and adds support for Blackmagic Design’s Intensity Pro, DeckLink SDI, DeckLink Studio, and DeckLink HD Extreme video cards. Released in August 2009, Media 100 Suite brings fast, high-quality editing and compositing to Mac OS X. Offering a unique combination of ease-of-use, ease-of-learning, and consistent professional results, Media 100 Suite takes advantage of many QuickTime codecs, including DVCPRO HD and Apple ProRes 422. Apple Final Cut Studio and Adobe After Effects integration lets users share projects amongst Final Cut Pro, Color, and Media 100 and export timelines from Media 100 to After Effects. Editors can export legacy Media 100 projects to Final Cut Pro for further editing and revisions, export Final Cut Pro sequences into Media 100, or export a Media 100 sequence to Color for advanced color grading. In addition to Blackmagic Design video I/O cards, Media 100 Suite supports Matrox MXO2, AJA video I/O cards, Media 100 HDx hardware, FireWire I/O, and Panasonic P2 acquisition. Boris RED is included for integrated 3D compositing, titling, and effects. Media Distributors has been named an official systems integrator for the RED Rocket, the real-time 4k playback and processing card from RED Digital Cinema. Media Distributors recently introduced its Archive Station™ R-Series Remote Digital Lab for RED Workflows, which includes the Line 1 Media Fusion Drive™, a hybrid storage system that includes LTO-4 and Blu-ray drives for media archive creating an efficient solution for immediate backup of tapeless content for productions. Media Distributors will integrate both R-Series products and other RED Rocket solutions for customers, enabling leading-edge design and workflow solutions around RED camera systems.
