digiGO! — The Digital (R)Evolution™

October 12, 2009

  • Telestream FlipFactory webpage Telestream presents the first solution offering YouTube fingerprinting for live and file-based workflows. Digital fingerprinting is a process that uniquely identifies video, making it easier for media companies to discover and track their video content that has been uploaded to YouTube. Media companies are increasingly opting to partner with YouTube by claiming videos as their own, which results in the ability to share revenues with YouTube for advertising placed around their videos. The company’s installed base of thousands of major media companies can now use FlipFactory and Pipeline to easily create YouTube fingerprinting to ensure content identification and tracking. FlipFactory is a full workflow automation system that offers the industry’s broadest video file-format support for transcoding, and the industry’s deepest integration with third-party systems for file discovery and delivery. The new solution allows FlipFactory to create a digital reference file and automatically upload the reference file to YouTube. This allows content owners to automatically track and protect their content, without incurring any extra steps, costs or processes. This new capability can be added to any existing FlipFactory workflow, providing the broadest file-based fingerprinting support in the industry. The Pipeline network video capture system extends the capability of FlipFactory to provide real-time fingerprinting for live production environments, including sports, awards and press events. One or more channels of Pipeline can be used to capture video from cameras or live broadcast feeds and immediately ingest it into FlipFactory for fingerprinting, creation of the digital reference file and uploading to YouTube — all within a few minutes of the live event. This allows media companies to either block or monetize videos of their live events on YouTube.

  • More nasty news for AT&T… ARCchart‘s latest study of UMTS global operators finds AT&T‘s 3G speeds among the worst as far as speed is concerned in some markets, with average download speeds across the U.S. at 1,037 kbps and other metro areas only receiving 800 kbps in broadband coverage — Google has received a letter from the Federal Communications Commission, the start of an agency probe into whether or not rural area calls were blocked by the Google Voice Service — the Business Confidence Index from the Mobile Entertainment Forum reveals a 6 percent increase over 2009 predicitions as far as mobile revenue growth is concerned, with an estimate of 33 percent as the actual growth factor for this year — If you are a T-Mobile USA user and you’re wondering where your data went, seems as though a computer catastrophe occurred that eradicated personal data that was stored in the Company’s Sidekick devices, with such elements as photos and user contacts permanently deleted… talk about a public relations nightmare for both T-Mobile and Microsoft, who acquired Danger last year, the company who manufactures the Sidekick… and speaking of T-Mobile, it’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, is still working on a number of options for the rollout of their U.S. 4G service, with three options on the table that range from buying another firm’s spectrum licenses, heading into a spectrum auction, or go for a partnership with a firm already in possession of such valuable property.

  • KidZui homepage KidZui has launched the ZuiTube App, the first, free, kid-friendly video app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. ZuiTube.com, which launched online in August, offers an inclusive, kid-appropriate video destination online. In extending the ZuiTube.com experience to the mobile platform, the ZuiTube App allows kids and their families to freely enjoy mobile video with the YouTube-like experience on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The KidZui browser provides access to KidZui`s over 2 million kid-safe games, websites, and videos. The ZuiTube App provides content for kids ages 3-12 that the entire family can enjoy. Featuring advanced functionality, users can search from more than 60,000 parent and teacher approved videos on 6,000 channels. The intuitive functionality, driven by the KidZui community, allows kids to search by “most viewed,” “most shared” “featured channels” and “most tagged (“tags” act as KidZui`s user-generated rating system that allows kids to share their thoughts on a video through expressive icons),” and sort videos by “channels” and/or “tags.” The ZuiTube App video catalogue will continue to grow daily with content served through KidZui`s YouTube developers license. The ZuiTube app and ZuiTube.com are powered by YouTube, but are not affiliated with YouTube or Google. Just like KidZui and ZuiTube.com, the ZuiTube App`s videos are reviewed and curated by an editorial team of parents and teachers dedicated to combing the Internet for the very best content for kids.
