Comtech EF Data's SATCOM Products Now Servicing The First O3b Networks' Customers

[SatNews] Comtech EF Data Corp.'s SATCOM infrastructure products are now in service for multiple customers using O3b Networks’ innovative Ka-band Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite system.

The deployed Comtech EF Data products are facilitating satellite mobile backhaul, high-speed trunking and premium enterprise services. The Comtech EF Data products are compatible with the new O3b satellite network, and are commercially available today.

O3b Networks’ customers are deploying numerous networks using the Comtech EF Data CDM-760 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modems. The CDM-760 features compression and optimization functionality that deliver tremendous benefits to operators and service providers. Comtech’s platform provides a seamless and hitless solution that maximizes end to end user throughput. In preparation for the live O3b network capacity, Comtech EF Data worked closely with the customers to optimize network designs. O3b Networks has built a next-generation network that combines the reach of satellite with the speed of fiber. Its groundbreaking services are enabling emerging market telecommunication operators and ISPs to make the Internet a truly global and universal experience.

Stewart Sanders, Chief Technology Officer of O3b Networks, said, “Now that we are live, customers can have confidence that deploying networks with a combination of O3b Networks’ satellite system and Comtech EF Data’s infrastructure products will support the explosive growth of high data rate, low latency applications for underserved and unconnected locations.”

Bob Hansen, Chief Commercial Officer and Senior Vice President of Comtech EF Data, said, “The CDM-760 has been an enormous success within the trunking market. The same award winning modem can now be used on O3b. Now that we have demonstrated the advanced capabilities and reliability of our products in conjunction with the O3b solution, we anticipate widespread market acceptance of this practical alternative.”
