O3bMaritime... Lightning Fast Connectivity O'er the Waves w/ the First Smart Royal Caribbean Vessel

[SatNews] ...provide lightning fast download speeds and performance for both passengers and crew at one fourth the response time of traditional satellite systems.

O3b Networks today announced that Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas has become the world’s first ‘smart’ cruise ship, able  to provide full broadband connectivity for passengers. Leaving November 12, 2014 on the first of two two-day VIP cruises from Port Liberty, the ship has the O3b ‘fiber in the sky’ service fully available for the first time. You can see more here.

The use of O3b satellites, which are closer to the earth than conventional geostationary satellites, reduces latency, increases Internet speed and improves voice and video quality for the user. Believing that the Internet should always be within reach – on land and at sea - O3b Networks and Royal Caribbean arecurrently delivering more bandwidth to Quantum of the Seas than is available to all other cruise ships combined in the world.

Simon Maher, VP Enterprise for O3b said, "We are delighted to support the launch of the world’s first smart ship with Royal Caribbean. Quantum of the Seas uses O3b’s maritime offering O3bMaritime to provide lightning fast download speeds and performance for both passengers and crew at one fourth the response time of traditional satellite systems. O3bMaritime is the only satellite system capable of enabling cruise line guests and crew broadband services on par with onshore telecommunication standards."
