UAE Public Satellite Service License Granted By UAE To Inmarsat


[Satnews] Inmarsat has been granted a Public Satellite Service License by the General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunication Sector (TRA), to offer mobile satellite communications services in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) region.

The signing ceremony took place at the TRA Abu Dhabi headquarters and was attended by His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, UAE TRA Director General, and Alison Horrocks, Inmarsat Executive Vice President Corporate Governance and Company Secretary. The license gives Inmarsat permission to offer its services to public and private sector users in government, media, maritime and aviation markets, and to help support humanitarian and emergency relief efforts in the UAE.

The granting of a Public Satellite Service License is a significant occasion for Inmarsat. The United Arab Emirates has been a key hub for us for many years and we recognise the importance of the UAE and the whole GCC as a growth region for us,” said Alison Horrocks.

Commenting on this signing, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori said,  “UAE is on the threshold of an era of unsurpassed innovation at all levels and particularly the Space field. The importance of this license is stemmed from its direct impact on the ICT sector and the rapid advancements that UAE is undergoing to implement smart cities. Having Inmarsat operate in UAE will definitely open new frontiers for business, contribute to driving the sector to compete globally, and serve our strategy that aims at exploiting technology in saving lives and serving humanity.”
