Tracking Through The Traverse, An ORBCOMM Specialty For Barnes Transportation

Solar recharging technology empowers devices to be self-powered—highly applicable as a power source for asset tracking needs.

Enter ORBCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ: ORBC) and that firm's ruggedized telematics solution which has now been selected by Barnes Transportation Services Inc. to provide the answer to their tracking needs for their dry van trailers. Barnes is a family-owned and operated truckload carrier servicing the Eastern United States and ORBCOMM’s solution will provide wireless connectivity through that firm's proprietary hardware as well as a web-based reporting platform for optimal fleet management.

With solar recharging technology in place, the need for frequent battery changes is eliminated. ORBCOMM’s solution includes a  web application with data reporting and analytics capabilities to increase in-transit visibility and security of Barnes’ dry van trailers. The telematics solution also integrates with the McLeod LoadMaster™ dispatch software platform, enabling Barnes to capture near-real-time asset data for their fleet, including operational condition, exception reporting and GPS position through one comprehensive system. Barnes expects to complete deployment of ORBCOMM’s solution by year end.

Marc Eisenberg, ORBCOMM’s Chief Executive Officer, explained that his firm's solar-powered solution offers Barnes continuous, real-time asset tracking and monitoring from origin to destination, requires less maintenance and provides a low cost of ownership for maximum ROI.
